alchemy & writing::Gemini Season

Welcome to Gemini Season!

I can’t believe we’re already in Gemini season, running quick into summer! Half the year is almost up, yikes!

So here we are, in Gemini Season, which started on May 20th this year, and will last until the summer solstice on June 20th. This Gemini season will be a busy one, astrologically. Many planets are changing signs during Gemini season, which is oh-so-very Gemini, as Gemini is the most mercurial sign.

Gemini is ruled by Mercury and the Gemini constellation is represented by the twins Castor and Pollux. I don’t know much about the mythology surrounding them, but apparently one of the twins was a son of Zeus (and therefore immortal), while the other was a human (the son of royalty). Zeus saw how much they loved one another, so he let them both be immortal by placing them in the sky together as the Gemini constellation.

Geminis are known for being brainy and quick thinkers, as Mercury rules the mind after all. If you’re a writer, and you want to understand how you write, take a look at where your Mercury is in your chart. In what ways does the sign your Mercury in tell you about the way you write? (If you want me to take a look at your chart, you can always sign up for my Office Hours and we can take a quick look at your chart and your Mercury. If you do sign up, please leave me a note about your birthdate and time so I can look at your Mercury before we meet up. )

My Mercury resides in Taurus, known for being slow and stubborn (!), and let me tell you, yes, the writing process can often be slow!

Astrology for creatives:

The quick rundown: Several planets are changing signs during Gemini season, and lucky for us they are changing into signs that they do well in (except for Saturn).

Saturn into Aries: Woot! Saturn entered Aries on May 24th, 2025 and we are in it for the next 2-3 years. (We will get a slight reprieve when Saturn backslides into Pisces around September 1st.) Good to know: Saturn is in his fall in Aries.

The energy I’m getting from this transit is that feeling of childlike impulsiveness (Aries) mixed with the necessity (in our 3D world) to create something through knowledge and time (Saturn). That push-pull of wanting to create a masterpiece but without having studied how to be a master, does that make sense?

However, these difficult transits are always great learning opportunities!

So, perhaps this transit will teach us to deal with the frustration of not being immediately good at something. Maybe this transit will help us stay focused (Saturn) and give us the energy (from Aries) to try until we succeed.

Advice: combined with Mercury’s transit in Gemini, this would be a great time to come up with a game plan for your social media, blog posts, etc.

Mercury into Gemini: And Mercury enters Gemini on May 25th and leaves on June 8th, 2025.

As I noted above, Mercury rules Gemini and is therefore at home in Gemini; so this is a great a transit for writers! Mercury is also associated with business, buying and selling, and I think of Mercury as a patron saint of small business. That’s just to say, this transit would be great for doing some Mercury magick, especially if you’re a small business owner or doing any sort of writing.

If you want some tips for working with Mercury, I wrote this little blog post Quick Guide to Working with Mercury a few years ago. It’s honestly due for an update, but it can still help if your unfamiliar with Mercury workings.

Quick notes: This transit is great to work with, especially for those writing short stories, blog posts, or any social media. Use the energy of this transit to get that work done! During this transit I plan on focusing on my social media, blog posts, and maybe working on a short story or two. This transit is only 2 weeks long, so you’ll want to get started on that Mercury magick right away.

Jupiter into Cancer: Light up your Jupiter candles everyone, Jupiter is moving into Cancer where he is exalted! This just means Jupiter is in a great place and he is bestowing his gifts to us all.

This transit lasts from June 9th 2025 to June 30th, 2026. So he’ll be in Cancer for a little over a year, hallelujah.

During this past Jupiter transit in Gemini I used Jupiter magick to finish a first draft of my novel, which I achieved (yay!) I’m now working on rewrites, and this is all to say that I really like Jupiter for novel writing. (Mercury is good for shorter works, whereas Jupiter is better for longer works).

I’m hoping to write more about this transit, and how to work with it on my Substack, so follow me over there (if you haven’t already).

Venus into Taurus: This is another great transit as Venus rules Taurus. Venus will be in Taurus from June 5th to July 4th, 2025. In Taurus Venus is all about pleasure (Venus is also at home in Libra, but that sign is more about symmetry and equality). This would also be a great time to work on any Venus pursuits: mainly beauty, pleasure, and love. This would be an ideal transit for love and attraction spells, or even just for doing a photo shoot, or taking selfies. 📸❤️ Maybe write some erotica or a romance?

My advice is to use this transit in service of self-love, as I think that’s the deeper vibration of Venus (and the source of beauty, pleasure, and love). As RuPaul says: If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else?

Mars in Leo April 17th until June 17th: Mars is still in Leo, yay! I love this transit for creative work, as Mars spurs us to get going and Leo is concerned with creativity.

Gemini season book recommendation:

The Dutch House by Ann Patchett

Have you ever read Ann Patchett? I’m a little embarrassed about liking her so much. There’s something really calming and regular about her writing. She doesn’t write about avant-garde people and her writing isn’t experimental, it’s just straightforward and well done. So, if you’re looking for a book about a young woman involved in sex and drugs and social media, this is not it!

I definitely consider her one of the best American writers alive right now, but if you’re looking for an adrenaline rush from her writing, you won’t find that here.

The Dutch House is overwhelmingly about family dynamics and centers on two siblings living in a small town and their eventual fight over a house. Having had a somewhat similar experience while I was growing up, though not as dramatic as it’s presented in the novel, I really relished this one.

Siblings and local areas are Gemini themes, so that’s why I’m recommending this book for Gemini season. Plus, she’s a talented writer, another Mercury theme!

(Also, I think the e-book version is currently on sale for $3, so take a search for it if you can’t find it at the library.)

  • Office Hours is still going on and I've increased the hours indefinitely. So if you can't usually make my usual office hours times (Thursdays 3-5pm PST), see if these times now work better for you. Here's the link: office hours
  • The Writing Coven: Because it’s summer, we’ll be changing up the days that we meet for The Writing Coven. So through June we’ll meet on Tuesdays 3-5pm PST/6-8pm EST, starting on June 3rd. (We will meet on Friday May 30th, then switch to Tuesday.) We will likely continue to meet throughout the summer on Tuesday, as this seemed to be the best time for everyone who attends. If you’re interested in joining just email me and I’ll add you to the list. Open to all writers and creatives searching for community and accountability! We meet on zoom, talk about life and what we’re working on, then get to work for at least an hour or so, usually.
  • I’m now on Substack . . . and I love it? If you’re looking for social media that is more long than short, you should give it a look. (Also it is an alternative from the “metaverse.”) I've only been posting about twice a month, but you can connect with me here. Substack is definitely fun to sift through, for sure.

And that's it for this month . . .

Hey folks! Welcome to Aries season and Spring and the end of Eclipse season!! (Quick note, scroll to the end of this newsletter and there is a wonderful opportunity for a writer with a game changing idea) I’m not gonna lie, all of this has made me pretty tired - it has been an exhausting month, has it not? There were many changes going on in March, many that will affect us here on earth for awhile. Aries season brings with it the end of the eclipses and the end of the Venus and Mercury...

Hello all and welcome to Pisces season! (And, sorry this one is so late, there’s a ton going on in March - if you haven’t heard, 2025 is an active year astrologically) I was not paying attention and didn’t realize Pisces actually floated in on February 18th (how Pisces of me), and we’re in Pisces season until the Spring Equinox on March 20th (also the beginning of Aries season) As it’s Pisces season, it’s time to get dreamy. Yes, the world (or, feels like it at least) is going to hell, so I’d...

Hi Folks - Welcome to Aquarius season, which is really the season of the weirdos! So Aquarians are like the little aliens of the zodiac, and they’re really brainy. This is also the sign of the revolutionary and the humanitarian. Their thinking is typically a little before their time, and sometimes it can leave the rest of us scratching our heads. Aquarius is more associated with groups than individuals. Aquarius season runs from January 19th-February 18th. Pluto just recently moved into...
